A Gentler Tomorrow

Samsung editorial · Illustration series · 2024

An illustration series for a Samsung editorial: the future got built, and it is gentle.

The future got built. And it's actually fine. Weird, isn't it? We spent so long being warned about this moment—towers eating the sky, machines replacing humans, everything getting colder as it got bigger. So it's strange, almost moving, to imagine arriving here and finding the opposite. Every skyscraper wearing photovoltaic glass that quietly drinks in the sun and powers what's inside. Server racks humming next to flower beds, computation and growth finally speaking the same language. Everyday people casually standing outside a doorway at dusk, talking about nothing important, in no rush to be anywhere else. Maybe that's the quiet argument underneath all of this: that progress was never actually the enemy of gentleness. This is what it might look like if we play our cards right — if the towers went up and the light still fell the same soft way it always did, and somebody remembered to plant something green in every corner they could reach. The future got built. It's tall, bright, lit up in colors we hadn't quite pictured. And somehow, against all our fears — it's good.
